Renata Batteries Renata SA, situated in Itingen near Basle ( Switzerland ) is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of micro batteries for electronic applications. Founded in 1952 for the production of mechanical watch parts, Renata was converted into a specialized button cell maker (predominantly for the watch industry) in the late seventies. Today, Renata employs some 500 people at its modern Itingen facility where all services (including R & D, manufacturing, quality control and administration) are concentrated. Renata SA is a subsidiary of The Swatch Group Ltd, Bienne/Switzerland.
Equipped with highly automated machinery, Renata’s Itingen plant produces over one million batteries every day, including silver oxide batteries for watches, zinc-air batteries for hearing aids, lithium coin cells for consumer, commercial and industrial electronics, telecommunications, medical and personal computers. A full range of sophisticated holders for lithium batteries is also produced at this factory.
During the year 2000, Renata started producing Rechargeable Prismatic Lithium Ion Batteries for mobile phones and similar applications. With this latest addition to its range of battery products, Renata intends to become a leading European producer of rechargeable lithium batteries.
Renata controls the entire production process, from the stamped battery case, the injection moulded plastic gasket, the preparation of battery chemicals to final assembly. Thanks to this high degree of integration, Renata is reputed as an extremely flexible and reliable battery source.
